Box Office: Dhadak 2 -- The film has not crossed 10 crores even after 2 days of its launch; Mixed Results Despite Domain Expectations
Dhadak 2 titled as Unstoppable is a big announcement as far as the sequel to the 2018 successful film Dhadak is concerned, but it has not had the expected gathering at the box office. With only two days of its release in the theatres, the movie has not been able to reach the 10 crore mark, which is again dipping into the question of its commercial success despite the immense pre-release publicity.
By the end of Sunday, the movie has grossed a lesser amount of 9.8 crores, which is well below the expectations. Initial projections had pointed to the film generating over 15 crore at the weekend box office, due to the new star power of the performing actors together with the hype around the film having any linkage with the original Dhadak. The original film performed well in the box office, hence making everyone have the hopes that Dhadak 2 would ride on the already existing fanbase and expectations.
Nonetheless, its box office performance, however, has been so far struggling and one can attribute this to the mixed reviews and reactions by both critics and audiences. For all the applause that the film has received in terms of music and emotional appeal, the familiarity of the story-line has been criticized as an issue which may not serve the film well in terms of attracting the masses. The movie does not quite match the intensity of the previous film, genuflecting more on formulaic storyline, said one of the critics. One of them stated, “The leads have potential, but as per their acting in this film, they do not quite get the magic of the first one.”
Reception has been divided and mixed by the people who have watched it The emotional aspects and the lead actors have been enjoyed by some people whereas the pacing has been considered slow and narrative foreboding by others. Dhadak 2 could have been better, said another fan in Twitter. It is not bad, but nothing new was presented."
There are a number of reasons which might have led to poor reception of the film. The post-pandemic film industry has shown ideas that are becoming less consistent to stay in the box office since marijuana buyers have become more selective in choosing what to see and what not to. With other films and OTT releases putting a lot of competition to Dhadak 2, there is the possibility of diversion of viewers to other sources. The film does not have a powerful push in the form of a promotional campaign and a sizeable star power like other major releases this year, which could also be hurting the film.
In summary, Dhadak 2 has failed to live to its expectations but still, the movie has time to gain momentum. The fate of the film would be greatly determined by word of mouth and how the film will perform after few days. At this time, the figures may show it is not the box office smash that some people had wanted, but it may have gotten its audience sometime in the future.
